COMING ALONE? HERE’S HOW TO GET STARTED
Many people attend ManiMunch on their own.
And yes — we’ve all been new at some point.
HOW IT WORKS
ManiMunch is informal and social.
Most people arrive in small groups — or on their own.
It’s completely normal to join a table with space. No invitation needed.
People might not approach you first — not because they’re closed off, but because everyone is figuring it out too.
START SIMPLE
It might feel a bit awkward — that’s normal. You don’t need a perfect line.
Try something like:
“Hi, I’m new here — may I join you?”
or
“Hey — is this seat taken?”
That’s enough.
JOIN - DON’T WAIT
Look for space, eye contact, or a natural pause - then step in.
Find a table with space and take initiative.
This isn’t a setting where you wait to be invited in.
BE CURIOUS
Ask questions. Listen. Be present.
Most people are there to connect — just like you.
“What brought you here?” is always a good start.
OPEN-MINDED & RESPECTFUL
Different people. Different dynamics.
Read the room and respect boundaries.
IF IT DOESN’T CLICK - MOVE ON
Not every conversation will flow. That’s normal - and not a rejection.
Say thanks and try another table.
ARRIVE A BIT EARLY
The first hour is usually easier.
Smaller groups. More natural openings.
Less of that “everyone already knows each other” feeling.
ONE LAST THING
Everyone you meet was new once.
Most people remember that.
It usually takes less than you think.
